Have the stage 2 cams. Had a Dobeck EJK installed at the same time. When I decelerate, there is a define spot where it is no longer "smooth". A point where it drops off and engine braking begins. I was NOT LIKE THIS BEFORE CAMS. If I decelerate in a curve it gets to be almost scary.

I figured it was bad dobeck settings. Spent hours trying every setting I could find, and then some. Multiple calls and emails to dobeck. Still the same. So, I finnaly ended up turning all the settings on the dobeck to .5, which should pretty much disable it. Nope. Same thing (except now the bike has lost some " punch" that I've become used to).

Met a 2016 chief owner last night who also has the cams, and I asked him and, yes, he has the exact same issue. He has no dobeck. He does have cams with stock exhaust, if that makes a difference.

Anybody else experiencing something similar?? Could my bike have not been flashed properly?

Curious if anyone using PCV is experiencing this. All the complaints I have heard about popping come from the flash or Dobeck set ups.

Taking mine in for 20,000 service. Going to have them disconnect dobeck, hook o2 sensors back up, redo and check all flashes and see if they can get it where it should be. If they can, I'll then hook dobeck back up.

What gear are you in when this occurs?
Can happen in any gear. Mostly lower gears as I don't decel that much in higher gear. Its an abrupt drop-off when throttle is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the off position

I'm trying to figure out just what you are talking about. Are you by chance talking about while decelerating or engine braking as I know it, that point where it just lets go and stops the braking part and goes into free wheel mode or feeling? Or something totally different? I don't have cams and get it as does everyone else. I don't like it but have learned to live with it. But it sounds like you have something else going on. Yes....No?

Imagine slowly letting off the throttle while in gear. Engine slows down the more you turn the throttle. Then, right before you have throttle all the way closed, it acts as if it is now already closed.

Mine is smooth as silk accelerating and decelerating. From full throttle to slamming it shut.
Same with my 2015 Chieftain after the Stage Two Performance Cams installed and Flashed

I'm still thinking this is what some call surge. Where the engine is braking and at some point it just lets go. That's what it sounds like the OP is talking about to me but not sure if that's what others are calling surge. It does feel like a surge. But it's where the engine stops doing engine braking. So are you guys that have tuners saying you can adjust that out?

Dis-connect the battery for 5 minutes, then re-connect. This will re-set the tps base. When you re-start it, do not touch the throttle, let it start by itself. Ride to test. When you do this, pull the ground wire on the Dobeck. re-attach after the test.

When you let off it isn't smooth? Not sure what you mean exactly. It doesn't go right to engine braking?

I have k&n, cams, dirty birds ehxaust and PCV with cam Map, runs a little rich, but it smooth as hell IMO. Oh and powerful :)

I have the surge...more like a compression release at 1200 rmps while decelerating. If you're off the throttle with rpm's dropping ,at 1200, the bike will surge forward...almost feels like a shot of fuel is being added or that engine braking is suddenly not happening any longer...I have the cams and a PCV if that helps, but my bikes done it from day one, pre all that added stuff.

Stage 2 no tuner. No surge and no braking, unless I'm winding rpms up and down in the twisties. But that's on purpose.

I have the cams, but no fuel management system. I'm very happy with the results
