Buying Dynojet PVCX

ok, all those whom have purchased a PVCX.

I’m trying to figure some things out. 1 trying to decide which site would be best to buy from, Dynojet directly or Fuel Moto and why buying from one or the other is more beneficial?

2 those who have purchased the pvcx is that all you purchased or did you also have to get an auto tuner as well? As far as I’m understanding it this device when purchased and loaded with the respective tune you just plug it into the ECU plug under the seat and push the flash and let it do its thing then once done unplug and enjoy, is this a correct assumption?

3 does Dynojet not send it out preloaded with tunes like fuel moto does because I do not see anywhere on Dynojet.com where there are downloadable tunes & then fuel moto you have to fill out a form with whatever respective details and they’ll pre-load it? I’m wondering if they even have the requirements to set a tune based on the equipment I have and how to determine if they do or not so I’m not wasting my time?

Please any info on how to make the best educated purchase for this product would greatly be appreciated. Thank you!

P.S. I also see that this tuner is only self programmable/loadable via windows based PCs and not from Mac/Apple based products, is this %100 true as I’m a Apple/Mac user because I am not computer literate.

Also does either offer a military discount?

I would recommend FuelMoto because of their service after the sale. If you get a tune and are having some issues with it, you can let them know and they will customize the tune to help solve your problem, free of charge. They charge the same price as Dynojet and are very easy to work with, but they only supply custom tunes if you buy the device from them.

Unless you have some really strange stuff on your bike they probably have a canned tune that will get you very close to where you want to be. After that, they will help you tweak it to fit your needs.

I would also recommend looking up threads with comments from @CraigB1960 who is about as knowledgeable about this device as anyone out there. He seems to really enjoy figuring out ways to get the best out of these bikes and is always helpful. Some of the posts he has made helped me tweak my throttle response to just where I wanted it, and I doubt I would have tried to do that myself without his input.

Fuelmoto. You get their tunes or you can get Dynojet tunes. If you go Dynojet you can only get their tunes. So it's worth it to go Fuelmoto.

You don't have to purchase anything further. You do have to get the tune that best fits your machine but Fuelmoto will work with you.

I don't think Fuelmoto sends it preloaded because of the way they now have it operating verifying what is on your ECM. You'll get instructions on what to do and if you get stumped you can find threads that address just about everything that can go wrong and how to proceed. Use the search tool or you'll get some nasty posts about using it. But ask if stumped.

Well, I was going to say maybe a virtual Windows emulator might be the answer for Mac OS but when I looked for something the one I was thinking might be possible (keep in mind I don't use Mac OS), the software had a search for things able to run on it, only said Power Commander by Dynojet and that "didn't install" (on that emulator program called Crossover).

Next I found a YouTube video where someone using a PVCX uses Mac OS to do the file transfers, so apparently it is possible. Watch from 7 minutes into this:

Buying a PVCX from Fuel Moto is a no brainer - I did this recently and you get full access to the FM recommended tune (for your performance specs) as well as their famous after sales service for any follow up tweaks and upgrades. On top of this I received all of the pre-loaded tunes, from DynoJet, on the device. You then choose whether you use the FM, DJ, or your own tune from there on. FM or DJ will work with you to improve results.
With the included tuning software you can start to work through all sorts of tuning options to develop yourself over time - if you have the interest, time and appetite. There are loads of terrific resources on this forum to help you - just search PVCX and the world is your oyster. If you don't have that time, etc - then the FM or DJ tunes will definitely improve performance over the stock tune by a long way.
Bottom line 1 is - buy the PVCX from Fuel Moto and all options are available.
Bottom line 2 is - with this purchase you are in control of what you get out of your bike.
Bottom line 3 is - have you ordered yet....

That guy did a whole mess load of stuff with a computer that I don’t have a clue how to do. And it concerns me that he had to delete files from it using a Mac to make it work without interfering with the flash process of the ECM and the tuner.

I don’t have anything crazy installed performance wise as if this moment. I’m running RCX 3” slashcut slip-ons for exhaust and i piece’d my own Air intake together based off the indian aftermarket “screaming Scout” design that I am currently about to install and see if it works this weekend. So hopefully they will have something that’s along those lines for a tune.

I purchased mine from FuelMoto because it was about $20 cheaper than dynojet and received it in 2 days…I didn’t ask about a military discount, but awesome service.

As far as the tune, I don’t believe fuelmoto has any available tunes for the Scout.

What you’ll have to do is first is STUDY the instructional pamphlet for about 5 minutes so you have an idea of the steps!

Plug the empty PVCX to your bike with the included cable, bind it to your vehicle and from there it will create a PV_INFO file and a .stk file which basically gives dynojet necessary info about your bike. Make sure you SAVE this .stk file to your computer later. I made the mistake of overwriting it so now if the dealer reads my ECU, they will know that I have flashed it. (the .stk file on their website and the .stk factory files are slightly different)

Plug the PVCX to your Windows PC with the provided USB cable (your Windows PC should now see the PVCX as another drive) go on dynojets website tune section and upload the PV_INFO file from the PVCX to the site. It will then give you a list of available tunes for your specific setup. Just download the appropriate tune (with the closest description of your current setup) onto your PVCX You shouldn't have to download the .stk file from the website (this is the mistake I made)

Finally, plug the PVCX to your bike and select ‘Flash tune’ and choose the appropriate tune you downloaded earlier from dynojet. Just follow the directions on the screen, it took mine about 10 minutes to flash. Make sure you follow the directions on the screen and once it's finished, completely turn off your bike for a good minute to allow the ECU to reset. There’s really not much to it!

I don’t believe fuelmoto has released any tunes so the PVCX will come empty, it’s not at all hard to load one onto it if you can get access to a Windows PC. I’m really not sure if Macs will recognize the device and/or tune files.

Again, it comes with a quick instruction pamphlet, STUDY IT BEFORE YOU TOUCH ANYTHING and it will save you a lot of grief. I had no idea how to do this when I first received it but you'll find it's not rocket science after you read the directions =)

I bought from.. Dynojet because it was cheaper at the time. Big sale at under 300. It depends on the price would be my recommendation.

As far as tunes, DJ has a bunch for the Scout. I keep reading FM doesn't, yet. Customer service is great from both.

I'm sending a message to FM right now to see if they have tunes available yet...
I know that fuelmoto DON'T work with macs

The company doesn't? Because the PCVX is made by DJ and sold by FM. It's the same unit
Thanks for all the info. I had the same question, Dynojet or FuelMoto but now FuelMoto it is. Is there a problem with doing a flash then taking the bike to the dealer for something else later?

Shouldn't be as long as you make sure to flash the factory .stk file back on

It is the same unit and it will not work with Macs. I think it has to do with the way the PVCX's internal storage is formatted, macs won't recognize it. If you can get access to a Windows PC though, it takes 30 seconds.

"The Power Vision CX product is designed for use with a supported Windows operating system and has been tested by Fuel Moto specifically with Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. Support is not provided for other operating systems such as Mac OS / Apple based products."

You can transfer files using the Mac, just cannot update the PVCX's firmware or run Dynojet's Power Core Software Suite.

I use my Mac to run all those programs though by booting into Windows 10 when my Mac starts. Apple provides the Boot Camp utility that configures a Mac to dual boot into whichever operating system you desire. I purchased Windows 10 Pro for $39 and used the Boot Camp to do the configuration.
That guy did a whole mess load of stuff with a computer that I don’t have a clue how to do. And it concerns me that he had to delete files from it using a Mac to make it work without interfering with the flash process of the ECM and the tuner.
This was before version 2.0 and above. The MacOS puts hidden files on any drive connected to it...be it an external hard drive or the PVCX, which is an external drive. The PVCX's operating system was confused with these hidden files. Dynojet has since made firmware changes that ignore these files.

The real problem with using the MacOS is that it still can fill up the PVCX with hidden files, though the PVCX ignores them, they take up valuable memory on the PVCX. If you do not clear out all the extra files that come with the PVCX, this can become a problem if you are using the PVCX to record logs.

I copy all the files that are on the PVCX to my computer and then using the PVCX's Device Tools, format the PVCX. I then copy only the files that it needs for my bike, which is the stock.stk file that you read when first connected to your bike, and the tune you want to flash to the bike. The PVCX will create a new PV_Info.txt when it reformats.

Ideally you should use a Windows 7 or 10 machine, but just transferring files to and from the PVCX and the Mac works fine.

If you borrow somebody else's computer make sure you save your file on a memory stick for your stock setup

What can you do if you accidentally overwrite the factory .stk file? Am I out of luck here?
I believe you can always get the factory file from them. Or it's always stored on the unit. But it's always available to re flash
