Bolt in my Tire

On my commute in this morning...I ran over a bolt. Luckily I was close enough to home to get my vintage back to the garage.

Now what.....

Does Indian offer roadside assistance? Anyone else been in the same boat?

Wow...lots of humor and knowledge here.
Here's what went down:
Contacted IRG they sent a tow w/in an hours time.
Guy shows up with a flatbed covered in oil.....
Ended up wenching me up.
Then the guys goes to strap it down from the front left of the truck...running the strap across the handlebars and back to the left corner of the flat bed. I looked at him and just shook my head. I proceeded to teach him how to properly tie down a moto.
I sign a doc w/ the delivery location of my local Indian dealer.
I immediately called the dealer and asked them if I could bring up the tire I would prefer to have installed. No dice "we only install tires we sell". I said that would have been great info to have before I had my bike sent your direction. He managed to find a tire for nearly half the cost w/out an Indian logo on it. Anyone care to guess what an Indian tube goes for? Luckily he found me one of those w/out an Indian logo as well.
I asked them to let me know when my bike landed safely.
Crickets....
No call call from IRG letting me know that it landed
No call from my local shop letting me know that it landed
Nothing but a survey from IRG...which I filled out appropriately

I plan on inspecting my bike thoroughly once it is complete...if there is damage from the transport.....who's at fault? I know he compressed the front shocks way to much...and the tow strap ran along my front fender....who knows what happened when it was dropped off....

oiled flatbed?- I would have turned him away right there...
and based on the rest of that snafu...it's painfully obvious that Gomer ain't the guy you want hauling your bike

Hey jdubsweb, What happened to you is not good.I've read some post by other members after calling for roadside pick-up being greeted in the same manner with a greasy whipped out looking tow truck. I'm thinking maybe that's all you can expect sometimes and I guess it beats nothing, but you still hate to see your bike have to be loaded up especially with a wench. I hope nothing was damaged. Probably no matter who you have roadside coverage with it's possible to have this happen. RED IRON

I think it is a 50 miler. I had a bad experience with my Classic. Somehow the tire spun on the rim and cut the valve stem off, the tube melted into a block of rubber. I had been running I-10 @ speed while all this was going on. Lucky no bad wreck. Got home, a 100+ miles, 8 hours later. First thing Tuesday afterwards,I called dealership and ordered Chieftain rims and tubeless tires. And a good plug kit...

Is the tire flat? It doesn't look flat in the photo. If the tube's still holding air I'd just pull the bolt out and go on. If the damage looks too bad or if you're just possessed of an excess of caution replace the tire. Understand that I am cheap and have a high tolerance for risk.

Had this happen today. Nail. No damage to tire just nail through tread. Dealership wanted to sell me a new tire. Nope put new tube in. The nail was way smaller than that bolt. Dealer trying to tell me the tube would come through the very small hole. I told them to patch the tire form the inside and replace the tube. They didn't want to put a patch in it. But they put a new tube in. Hope it holds. The tire has about 3k on it. I can't see a tube coming through the little hole about the size of a pencil lead.

There is a liquid called 'Ride on' 8oz per tire and you could pick up several nails and screws without loosing any air/ fit for tubeless! It also balances your wheel/ front n back! Look it up on google or your favorite Internet site! Watch the video. Good luck! Safe riding! Don't run over any pencils.....
I love the chieftain tire pressure monitoring system....I have seen it go down twice and both times I had a nail in the tire. Since I could monitor the pressure I just road it home....I wore the top of the nail off...

FYI/ TPMS is in all Chiefs!

When using Ride-On, we were told that if you got a screw or bolt in your tire to unscrew if rather than just pull it out. This was from a Ride-On tech guy. He said doing it that way left more material in the tire so the Ride-On could work with.

Was too late in my case as the bolt(apparently) went in and pulled out immediately giving me a sudden loss of pressure. But the TPMS flashed up so I was able to drop from highway speed before going completely flat. Rode on the sidewalls for 12 more miles to get to a safe spot off the highway.

The tubeless tire in this case was shot by then and the Ride-On inside had turned to powder because of the heat generated riding on the side walls but it did keep me from a complete sudden loss at speed. The hole was way over a quarter inch. I think it may have been a 1/2 inch bolt.

You would think I would have been able to see it but I sure never saw a thing. New tire has Ride-On once again. I'm sold on the stuff even though in this case the hole was too large to seal. It helped anyway.

Good that Ride on helped, no rim weights right? Yea I've been using it for quite some time now and it's in almost all my bikes. I'm glad it works with TPMS! Did you put a tube back in? Ride safe.

No. That tire was shot after riding it flat for so long. So another tubeless went on. A Harley branded Dunlop of all things but you take what you can get at times like that. Interestinglyy the odometer reads the exact same thing my GPS reads now. They only had a "will fit" tire and not the same size. I haven't even looked to see what sizw it is but I like it.

That tire info might be good to share just incase someone else is stuck for a tire! Do the Harley tires leak oil? lol

so does your's have the TPMS? In your 2014?

No Vintage and Chiefs don't come with them. I just ordered FOBO tire monitors. Works thru your phone. Got good reviews.
