Exactly... logistics play a key roll here. If any of you have ever shipped vehicles it's an interesting experience. Virtual job boards (can't remember the technical name) show all of the vehicles that need shipping to different destinations, and truckers fill certain orders depending upon their routes etc. I'm sure this gets even more complex with the more bikes you add to one truck etc. I'm also certain these routes have been a long time established but still... delays happen, haggling on shipping prices etc.I think some of the timing relates to delivery destination as I doubt they're going to roll a partially filled truck.
Anyway, my order status (copied from a model specific order thread) delivery to Des Moines IA area.
Black Smoke Midnight Rogue ordered 5/14, was in scheduled status by the time I got around to checking today (5/26).

I feel for ya... been thru the same, in a slightly different way. Back in 2012 I'd heard rumblings of a "unicorn" being built by Ford in Germany. An AWD Focus RS putting out 350hp/ft lb. I spent 5yrs saving for a downpayment, then 2017 arrived. I went over to the Ford dealership and picked up my ride, and 7 months later realized mine was one of the VIN that had the wrong head-gasket installed. They tried to replace the gasket but the tech doing the work screwed up the tappet kit, he turned the engine over and BOOOM!My sad story!! I have posted parts of the story in other sections of this Forum but thought I would put it all together here.
-Decided to purchase a Scout Bobber, July of 2021
-Drive 2hrs to nearest dealership. NO stock. 12+ weeks for delivery (this time frame is the end of riding season in ONT Canada)
-Ordered bike Dec 16, 2021
-Dealer contacted me April 15 with an update. Shipping date is scheduled April 16 to May 31 (6 week delivery window)
- Email confirmation followed 5-6 days later.
- Progress bar went to SCHEDULED approximately mid Jan (can't remember exact date) Shipping TBD
-June 2, Progress still at SCHEDULED, shipping changed back to "TBD" waiting on a reply from my inquiry to Indian!
- 5-6 days later Progress stayed at SCHEDULED but shipping changes to April 16 to May 31 (same info deal provided)
- June 1, contacted dealer. (my first inquiry since purchase) Dealer informs my shipping is "TBD". Email Indian (Corp, not dealer) as to what is going on
- Email received, Case number given to my inquiry, follower by a text asking "what dealer I purchased at". I forwarded to info.
In my 50's now but feeling like a child that was shown a lollypop and told, "You can't have it!"
Drive over, bang on the front door, and say "I want my bike peeps!" lmao j/kYeah, I was May 14 for mine, but I'm a short trip for the delivery, only about 3 hours from Spirit Lake.![]()
How do you get in touch with the "Production Team" directly?Well said!!!!!
I have been thinking the same (Challenger Elite launch)
I am fine waiting for what I want but the lack of information is borderline infuriating.
Indian official wed site is still saying 12+ weeks. REALLY!!
They need to be more forthcoming with Information.
Even if the parts shortages ended tomorrow, the log jam of orders will take a long time to process.
Yes sir I did, I sent them an email via their online applet. Was shocked that they contacted me within a couple hours.Did you get that using the email address that I posted?
That's great news to hear...I ordered mine bike 5/13...so I hope I can expect something simular. However, based on a lot of other feedback in this thread, estimated shipping dates can and will change. Fingers crossed for both of us.
There was another Canadian on here who I saw had waited a substantial time for his bike. I'm not sure why there was an issue with his Canadian destination but you might want to ping Indian to make sure yours is in the next batch. I have a feeling they're lining up all of the Black Smoke bikes and going to push out a larger order of them mid-July. Can't hurt to ask right? That sounds awesome you guys. I am at 28 weeks and counting.
Ummm...I don't think that's how this works. Production lines are based upon efficiencies of scale, supply chain management, and profits; not just profit. From my understanding Indian is exactly like other manufacturers who will retool an assembly line for a specific line of bikes and then produce any/all variations of that bike. So your scout bobbers/rouges/ vanilla scouts would be produced all in one batch... then your chiefs... and so on; and they keep this rotation going in order to fulfill all customer needs. If they're actually producing on a first come first served basis across their entire portfolio of bikes... well, they're doing it wrong! Now there may be some crossover between line-ups, such as paint and accessories... but for the most part the above would hold true. Plus I wouldn't want a set of production line workers constantly switching between a Bobber, then a Chief, then a Vintage, then a Rogue etc... that's when mistakes happen. It's all about the GROOOVE baby!I due somewhat agree with what you have said, with the exception of your last sentence!
Best Guess?
Indian's official wed site is still saying 12+ weeks!
I don't believe the majority of bikes ordered today or in the near future will be delivered in 12-15 weeks.
Even if the shutdowns ended today the back log of orders will not permit that time frame!
Would be interesting to know if they are prioritizing higher profit models.
Indian has stated "first come, first served" but I wonder?
If it makes you feel better, I think YOU picked the right color; honestly I'm kind of wishing that I'd gone with that maroon smoke, it gives the bike a little more character than just the flat black. I'd go back and change my color if I thought it wouldn't hurt my place in line but with things being the way they are...the black is my "second choice" so, I'll liveI emailed customer support 2 weeks ago. they inquired what dealership I purchased at. I forwarded that info promptly and never heard from them again.
I agree with you quote of assembly line retooling for different line of bike, was just a generalizing on what Indian wed site was stating.
Wish you the best of luck with the July delivery.
Patiently waiting!!
FYI I ordered Marron metallic smoke. Picking between that and Black smoke was the hardest part for me. lol
Originally from Ann Arbor yup, father was an M grad, and I grew up about a mile away from the stadium (BigHouse); I didn't get in, had to go to Hopkins instead (lmao). I've been back a few times since my family left in '84, and glad I never stayed, but enjoy the game day atmosphere. Been to quite a few college stadiums actually, and enjoyed each one; UF Florida "The Swamp" is where we left my brother for his college career... that place is also amazing! Never seen that many jorts and daisy dukes in my life... just a riot lol. Also been to UNLV's stadium which is really neat and BYU, and Utah (both fun places).I have already resigned to the fact that I will most likely not be riding till August!
shipping end of June.
Shipping, customs, dealer prep Adds another 1-2 weeks.
Out of Country vacation adds another 2.5 weeks and it’s August.
Michigan fan? From Michigan?
I have visited often! Not recently (Covid)
Short trip to the border from where I live.
FYI wish I was getting black exhaust!
LMAO... My father grew up in Cleveland, he was a traitor (thankfully) and went to UM, they're driving up from North Carolina for the PSU game this year; they drive straight thru Columbus... pretty sure his license plate says GOBLUE Evil Snicker.Go Blue! I'm a big U of M fan dead smack in the middle of Buckeye country. Boy, do I catch hell from my wife! Lol
+1... Modern tolerances are much MUCH smaller than they used to be. I'd still make sure that you're varying RPMs frequently but a few flicks of the wrist aren't going to damage anything. That being said I wouldn't be going around red-lining it either; bouncing off the limiter isn't good for any engine.Do it. Break-in on a modern motor's mostly a persistent myth.
I would ping them again...I filled out the message applet on the Indian site last Wednesday, I thought I read something about a 2 business days response....so far nothing.
You're joking right? If that's the case the "roflmao"Yep, not surprising. There is also a world shortage of matt black paint as well.
HELL YES!!! Congrats... this also gives me hope that the July 10 - 20 date for myself and a couple others is accurate.Contacted Indian today.
"Based on the best information we have at this time your Scout Bobber is set to ship July 8."
I have a feeling that your ship date will in fact be July 8th... there are at least three or four others (including myself) that have received a ship date of July 10 - July 20 or right around in there. I think they have a large batch of Scouts that they're trying to get out the proverbial door at that time. So it wouldn't surprise me to see all of us on here in another 2.5 weeks talking about our bikes being shipped. Just sayin'...Ya I understand that. I ordered December 3/2021. Was told by the dealership when I ordered that it would be April or May before it came. Got a ship date from the dealership of April 16 - May 31. Then got a ship Date of June 6 - June 30. Now I have a ship date of July 8. Which will be just over 7 months.
Oh siiiiiiiick...looks like your bike is almost arrived!Ah progress is a great thing !!!
