Hello folks,

Could any of you please tell me a way to spot difference between a scout and scout sixty?

I bought a used scout from Harley Davidson yesterday. The title says it a scout and that's what the dealer advertised. But when I drive, I couldn't reach the 6th gear.Looks like only 5th gear is Max. I doubt it's a scout 60. Can you please let me know how to differentiate it.

They put the price tag as low as a scout 60 and I jumped in and grabbed the offer without much examination.

Please advice

If it's a 5 Speed it's a Scout 60 to keep things simple, which is not a bad thing as the Fifth Gear is Geared the Same as the 6th Gear on a Scout .. As long as enjoy the Ride is all that matters ..

Thank you Chilly Bear, I am now sure that I got a Scout 60.

Not sure if this is an error in the title in the first place that the dealers are taking advantage of...The VIN number provided to the insurance company also confirms that it is registered as Scout everywhere...

It's a Sixty. You can't get a blacked out Scout. The Scout says Scout on the tank among other things.

If you don't keep it can I have your exhaust?
I'll let you know if I don't keep it..
I actually might keep it as I didn't loose any extra money, but just feel cheated by the dealer.

The Sixty may or may not maybe be a little bit cheaper to insure than a 69 cubic inch Scout. The VIN numbers would indicate the bike's identity to an insurance company.
Yes Reinie, I bought insurance while I was at the dealership and had them fax the copy before I rode the vehicle from dealership. Too bad the salesman didn't handover the copy until I leave and I didn't catch that.

Irony is the Harley dealership who sold this bike to me specified in their website that it's a scout. All specs advertised are of a scout and not 60.

What would you guys do if you were in my position? Ask them for some $ refund? Threaten to sue?

If you are sure you don't want the 60 then you should take it back and ask for a full refund. If you'd be happy with the 60, and it was a reasonable price for one, and it rides well, then enjoy the bike, but maybe don't give any more business to that dealer?

The Harley house probably didn't have a clue that there WAS a difference!

I don't think the dealer knowingly advertised it wrong.
I would guess someone just didn't do their job and look up exactly what they had

It's also sorta the buyers responsibility to know what they're buying

Happened to me but it was in my favor
Bought a semi truck online. It was advertised as a certain truck and priced accordingly. Go pick it up and it was immediately worth $25,000 more than I paid due to dealer not putting what it actually had

In your case. Maybe talk to seller. Can't hurt
