It's like the starter stalls out after couple of cranks coughs and quits.shut it off and start over and starts up.checked the battery and starter connection and everything is fine. ???

How about the battery earth, not just the terminals? Notoriously difficult to get a decent earth on an aluminium frame. Had problems with all these connections over time. The symptoms don't really tally, but the battery in your fob might be worth changing. Amazing the problems this can cure at a stroke....

And as we say here in the US of A, check the Ground, as the above post states, it has to be grounded properly.

Thanks for your input. I'll check the ground. The dealer said they couldn't do anything until it failed completely because they wouldn't know where to begin. Really!! Kind of embarrassing when when you're sitting with a bunch of harley friends and your Indian is couging and sputtering trying to start. This Springfield only has 5000mi.and the dealer doesn't seem to want to make it right. I guess they're just waiting for the factory warranty to run out .
