500 Mile Check Up Not Possible for 2 Months

Any suggestions? I have a 2023 Springfield that now has 524 miles. Shop said they are fully booked until August. By then I am ready for the 2,500 mile check up. What do I do?

This is not meant to be sarcastic, but have you considered changing your own oil? That would help get you to the next service point.

Call one of the other dealers in your neck of the woods and see if they can get you in sooner. Good excuse for a road trip.

I have no issues changing the oil if that is recommended since the shop is unable to do the check up. A little pissed that I bought the maintenance package, and expect the shop to take care of me since I bought the bike from them.

With the maintenance package assume I can take the bike to any Indian dealer.

I believe so. I think the maintenance package is through Polaris and not the dealer.

I had the same problem when I reached 500 miles. I just changed the oil, checked the belt and clutch free play.

I couldn't get an appointment for the 500 mile service for several weeks as well. I changed the oil and filter at 462 miles. The bike had 894 miles on the first available date of service, so I had them do everything except the oil change. They charged me $100.00 + tax.

Depends on how that maintenance package was sold. If it is from Indian or Polaris then yes, any authorized Indian/Polaris dealer should do the service with no charges. If it is a dealer sold package then you're limited to that dealer unless they have a network.

I would change it myself. The break in oil is pretty thin compared to what you will run normally and it's not meant to run long term.
Plus you want to get any debris from the break in out of the bike too.

Not to be an ahole. But it's your responsibility. I think a whole lot of us purchased the service plan. I know how much I ride the day I purchased bike I scheduled 500 Mille service.

Hell I'm due for my 2500 mile I think I will be over by 100 but not a big deal but it's my fault not the dealership.

If I understand correctly, it’s my fault for not estimating when I would reach 500 miles? I should have figured this out when I picked up the bike, and scheduled at that time? That’s a fair point, though I never even thought about it on the day I picked up the bike. On the other hand, a proactive dealership would address this on the day the bike is picked up.

And the dealership said I do not need to do anything. Just keep riding, even though in August I might already have 2,500 miles in the bike.

FWIW, the oil that is in your brand new bike straight from the dealer is NOT break in oil. It is the regular oil recommended for the engine. You are fine to run it.

Yes, break in oil does exist and it was most likely in the engine upon the very first run at the factory but it was dumped immediately after. Break in oil is only used for a very short time to essentially rinse a newly assembled engine of any possible small debris from assembly. It's lighter and flows better picking up the debris and carrying it away.

You would never want to put an engine under load with break in oil in it.

I bought the maintenance package as well, same as you the shop was always full and unable to change my free oil change that I paid for.
Yet other dealers were happy to do it for 250 bucks.
And had the time to do it.
I'll bet now that my maintenance package has run its course, they will have plenty of time for my bike.
I change my own oil.

I bought my Challenger 3 weeks before that lockdown covid nonsense. My local MC dealer was closed close closed at my 500mi and the only one that was open was 1.5 hrs away. I ended up buying the oil change kit and the service manual from Indian directly. (Special covid case for the manual.) I've done nearly all the service on my bike since. I check checked the bolts and bought a belt tension tool.

Had I purchased a maintenance plan like the OP, I would have been pissed!

Side note, a year later my brother in law bought a new Road Glide from high business HD dealer near him. He got his first 2 oil changes included and they got him in within 3 days each time. He loves to rub it in.

My dealership is currently 3-4 weeks out for service. I purchased a new Challenger Limited April 14 and had 500 miles on before the end of the first week. I bought a Indian PowerPlus oil change kit and got the break in oil out right at 500 miles. Then had the service (software updates if any, clutch cable, belt adjustment if necessary and a general look over) done when my appointment came up. Just document the oil change. If you are not comfortable changing your own oil, I highly recommend you locate a good independent motorcycle shop in you area and have them do it!

The 500 mi service is more than changing the oil, but other than a dab of grease, the oil change is the only thing that requires supplies.
The O.M. states at 500mi, change the oil/filter, lube the Clutch and front brake lever, re-torque all the exhaust hardware, Inspect everything on the list and perform a road test.
The road test is literally just taking a ride and look, listen, feel for anything wrong.

Try another dealer sounds like your only option.

One option to consider, performing everything in the 500mi service late is not likely to create much of a problem except the oil/filter change.
You could do the oil/filter change yourself, then bring it in August for the 500 mi service way over the 500 mi, but the one thing arguable a couple of months and a thousand miles late would affect was done on time.
