Honestly for the non full fairing bikes the cooler is not necessary. Indian stopped installing them on the non fairing bikes early on simply because they were not needed. A friend and I did a bit of an experiment on one of our trips out to the southwest. Pretty hot out and bucking a strong headwind so we were pushing the bikes hard. He had an 16 Springfield and me on my 15 RM. His bike had a dipstick that had an temp indication on it and mine was the standard dipstick. We took a break and he told me his oil was showing 215 F at the most, we then swapped dipsticks and went on again for about another hour in the same conditions. Mine was showing about 205 maybe 210 at the most. The 215 is well within the operation temps for the oil we use. The big heavy fairing bikes are the only ones that Indian puts coolers on simply because they work the hardest. The new Chiefs just are not working that hard. Dean
