Back in the summer, I had a starting issue with with my RM. With advice from members here, the problem was resolved. However, a new issue cropped up today - the key fob is apparently not being detected, even if I place it on the seat (the ignition button stays red, then starts flashing after about 10-15 seconds, along with the key fob light, then the ignition switches off).

The key fob battery was replaced about 3 months ago, and again today, but the bike still shuts itself down. Any ideas, please? Many thanks.

Start the bike with the PIN (to confirm it will start) … take it for a ride and see if the TPMS is working… it’s the same antenna… The FOB is designed to work with in 3-5 feet of the bike …

Can you set the alarm? Lock/unlock bags?

Here’s the antenna… On my Vintage it’s tucked under the VCM connectors … The antenna is bundled with the wires from VCM A … check the antenna is in place and not damaged… (ck the wires) …

Is the new FOB battery (CR 2032)… new as in … I just bought it? Or it’s been sitting in the drawer for a year or so? It should be over 3v … 3.1v+ … 2.8v and under replace …

Does the red LED light up on the FOB when you press a button?

If you’re not … Is the FOB battery holder damaged?

If everything is good with the FOB and you’re getting tire pressure readings … You can try pulling the 2 tall grey Circuit Breaker fuses … it’s like disconnecting the battery … (you may have to reset the clock) …

If that doesn’t work… then the possibility exists that the FOB itself may be bad … or there’s a VCM issue … Exhaust all other possibilities first …

Thanks EvilMonkey.

I can't start the bike with the PIN, as it shuts off the ignition, before I can complete the procedure.
Almost nothing operates as it should - the screen doesn't move, high beam doesn't work, the alarm doesn't work and the bags won't lock (either from the fob or the console switch). The brake light and turn signals do work, though.
The battery is new, or at least it's new from the store today.
The red LED on the fob flashes slowly, when it's near the bike. Pressing the buttons has no effect.
I'll check the receiver antenna tomorrow. May have to pull the fuses, too.

Everything was fine, two weeks ago, when I last rode. The bike has been on a trickle charger / tender since then, and the key fob has just been sat in my jacket pocket.

My questions are from a troubleshooting perspective…

It’s seems now that it’s more like a VCM issue vs just the FOB not connecting…

Do you have the Master PIN? I would use that instead of the Rider PIN (only because the rider PIN can be erased…) … Have you been able to start the bike with the pin in the past?

On a 2016 Roadmaster, you have to use the directionals like my Vintage to enter the PIN. You should be able to complete that before it powers down …

I would pull the fuses first or disconnect the battery … about 1 minute … the reconnect … make sure all your connections are snug … +/- and frame ground … in some of the threads with a similar issue … resetting the system helped to reconnect the FOB …
