I am putting together a 1949 Arrow and am having some issues with it.

The intake doesn't close completely until 1.5 inches from the bottom dead center on a compression stroke. If this is how it is supposed to be what is the purpose of keeping the valve open that far into the compression stroke?

High lift cam allows valve to be open longer to allow more air/fuel in thus more HP
