  1. Indian Chieftain
I have 2019 Chieftain. Considering the rear engine deactivation, I have not yet experienced any major heat issues. However, I was wondering if de-catting (catalytic converter removal) would improve the exhaust note and performance.

My local dealer offers what they call an X Pipe that replaces the stock catalytic converter, etc for $359.10 wondering if I should go this route or just gut out, modify the stock cat? According to the dealership or should I say "stealership" they claim that I won't be getting better performance...

I’ve read that some guys hear some tinginess when they gutted their stage ones. Mine don’t sound tingy. Is that because I only drilled an open hole through the cat the size of the plug? I did drill out the plug too. Just wondering if the tingy sound is from taking the whole cat out??

I bought the battery tender jr and my bike started, so I got to hear my almost gutted stage one exhaust...sounds good. I didn’t remove the entire cat, I hole sawed 1 1/4 hole and plug too. I added pic of open pipe. Thanks for the battery help on my last post.

Decided to reduce the amount of heat on my right leg with a surplus header pipe - have seen various methods - here is another one ... instead of opening it right up .. used a hole saw and pulled it out and welded back up again - what are your thoughts ??

I’ve gutted cat and cut out both the plugs. When I shake the pipe I hear small cat shavings inside the honeycomb holes. If I put these on will they blow out? Will some shavings get sucked into engine? Thanks

Ok, I am seriously considering gutting the cat on my 16 CDH. My question is, is there any down sides? Do I loose low end torque because of lack of back pressure? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Greetings to all, I have a 2014 Vintage Chief. with less than 5K miles. 100% stock. Have done nothing to the bike besides removing the silly "whatyoumaycalledit" plug in the pipes. For different reasons I have slowed down my bike riding. I have 3 motorcycles and try to give my bikes equal riding...
  15. Indian Motorcycle Tech Q & A
Have used drills and metal rod and have enough holes that a 3/8" rod has hard time finding a solid area. But how do I break it apart so I can pull it out !?!?!?

Looking for someone who can gut the catalytic converter out of the stock exhaust head pipe of my 2017 Chieftain Dark Horse. I posted a prior thread asking about the best header pipe to use and almost everyone felt that it was best just to take the catalytic converter out of the stock pipe...

I'm in the market to dump the cat for some heat relief. Current options are a neutered stocker, x-pipe, FM header, and the true dual options from Rush & FP. Any others? I've read the stocker ends up tinny, not interested in that. The true duals lose low end torque, not interested in that...

I know that there is already a bunch of posts about de-catting the head pipe. What I could not find is information about possibly adding baffles to the exit pipes from the cat box. I did read a thread where Enzo added baffles to his mufflers when he de-catted his head pipe, but I am...

Has anyone tried wrapping the CAT to reduce the radiant heat on the right side? If you have, are there any clearance issues with the decorative covers once you wrapped it? Just trying to decide what route to go before this riding season.

Just wanted to share with everyone how I removed the CAT on mine 2017 RM. I thought about purchasing a header without a CAT, but decided to call the service department and schedule appointment until I was told the cost. So, I got creative and decided to drill the CAT out, YOUTUBE said the job...
