This is happening on Thursday, 10/11/18 to my heavily modified Bobber. I'm taking time off of work to ride from SF to LA to get this wheel/tire package and i'm stoked. Months of research on type of wheels/color/tires etc.

Front:
130/60/19 Avon Cobra - New black on black cross laced 40 fat Spoke Wheel

Rear:
200/55/18 Avon Cobra - New black on black cross laced 40 fat Spoke Wheel

Let's see what happens!!!!!!

Here's my build forum (which needs to be updated):

It will be nice to see how your new wheels look . When you first removed your rear fender one of my first thoughts was your bike would look way nicer with a wide rear tire . I have been looking at RC components eclipse wheels and would like to change out my front and rear wheels with the rear being a 240mm . I have not found a rear fender that will work . I want a short fender that will work with my 18 bobber . I my need to go without a fender but my vision
is similar to the tank engine 240 skull bike

Agrees, you might have to custom build a rear fender, I’m actually gonna do that at some point.

heres mine with a 180/65-16 Avon Cobra and a standard back end @riteonjohn yours will look sick with that 200 but this is as big as i could go with a standard subframe, plenty of room between the swingarm and belt. Its made a negligible difference to the handling feels more planted in corners but doesn't fall in quite as quick but its hardly noticable.
I did get a Chief dark horse as a curtesy bike so it felt very nimble afterwards anyway.

dude, those tires look awesome, i can't wait!!!! that's giving me relief that a 200 would fit back there with the swingarm and belt. I was really concerned because Avon's run a bit wider than Metzlers. Thanks Scotsman!

Here's a look comparing Metz vs. Avon. Avon's looks so much more grippier!

seem real good so far, my wife has them on her scout and they are so much better in the wet, been a nice day today so been able to scrub them in and thats all the tyre i used with the pegs burried in the tarmac lol.Went for the 65 profile as it keeps the gearing about the same but fills the back end out better.
The 200 will look awsome need pictures i know you will :D

Here is what I know about this issue. I also wanted a wider tire and new rims. I measured, studied, measured, studied more and finally talked myself into fitting a 180 on the rear of my bobber. I went with a Metzler ME 880 (180/70/16) it was installed on a 16 x 5.5 rim. It fit and does not rub BUT there are a frw things that need to be considered. The Metzler 880 in that size measures about 175mm. This leaves me with a little more than an 1/8" of an inch between the tire and subframe. Not a whole lot .Now, you got options. If you go any wider you can adjust the preload on the shocks so tight that you get no suspension travel .this will prevent the tire from contacting the subframe but not advisable. Another option is go with a smaller diameter tire so there is no chance of the suspension traveling enough to make contact. As I said, mine fits but barely and I have no issues with anything touching. In my opinion anything wider than 175 mm is risky. I see no way a 200 will work. In fact if you're considering a 180 you need to research the tire you are going with. Some 180's are wider than 180mm. It all depends on the brand and model of tire.

Would agree there is no way to get a 200 to fit a standard sub frame, I have no issue with the 180 Avon, yes there isnt much clearance and if the bobber had any more suspension travel or the tyre was a taller profile it would not fit. @riteonjohn is ok as he doesn't have a subframe and I still have 20mm between the tyre and the belt.

That's close for sure. You have less clearance than me. I am curious, do you know the exact width of your tire? If so please post along with the Avon model and size. I would like for future reference in case I decide to go with another tire
Thanks

Avon Cobra AV72 180/65 -16 rear and AV71 130/90 -16 front, they come in a white wall but not sure if its all sizes.
Its not easy to measure as you know but its approx 178mm but due to the slightly steeper shoulder than the Metzler it kinda slots in ...just :D

Wow, coming from a moderator, that means a lot, thank you Meggie !

Looks great , I like the look of the Avon cobras . When I asked RC components about running a 240 mm rear tire on my bobber they recommended the Metzeler . They told me the Avon Cobra 240 mm run a little wider and would rub on the belt, but I has seen a number of custom scouts that have the Avons. I was wondering how much space do you have between the tire and swing arm on the exhaust side and tire and belt on the other side?

I’ll have to check but the guy who installed it said “you could fit a 240 if you chose to”.
