I suspect the Indians cannibalized Victory sales much more than expected. Specifically the Scouts and Dark Horse models.

If you can get different age groups or styles by changing just cosmetics a bit & adjusting marketing, that's a lot cheaper than maintaining two sets of technology.

I'm 32 and like modern looking motorcycles. I don't like a lot of chrome or leather so I'm not interested in a Springfield or even the Chieftains with chrome engines. But the Chieftain Dark Horse appeals a lot to me. The blacked out matte color scheme is amazing.

I think the scout visually overlaps a ton with victory cruisers - both have a muscle car look.

At least they didn't try flicking the brand to another company. They have retained the investment in IP and technology and can apply that exclusively to the Indian brand. This should strengthen Indian. I certainly hope they continue to develop the Impulse with an Indian badge - would love to see it again at the Isle of Man.

This should be good for Indian now being the main focus on their motorcycle line.

If anyone else buys motorcycles based on visual appeal like I do (with a bit of research thrown in)...then Indian is the clear winner from my experience. I'm often riding with Victorys of all description and nobody pays them any notice, whereas the Chief always attracts a crowd. I think for Polaris to focus on one line of motorcycle makes a lot of sense. Imagine the development capital they will have once they focus on the Indians.

Having said that, it is still unfortunate, as the Victory line was unique and very appealing. I'd have rather seen one of the metric cruiser lines go under.

I guess then I will have something to look forward to when I get older. Riding an Indian e-bike, smoking an e-cigarette while wearing sweatpants held up with e-lastic.

Can you imagine though if Indian releases a sharper, more "hot rod" styled model in the next couple of years? An Indian power-cruiser...might bring them over. Some Harleys may have more modern lines, but that engine-suspension-brake-frame combination is definitely retro.

There is opportunity for Indian to really listen to the public...it all starts with improving customer service...and Fixing paint issues, fender rusting issues, leather issues, clacking issues, etc...you want to be the bike of choice, fix the issues that plague the brand and keep your customers happy. They will tell others and more will follow. Can't wait to get my RM but I also feel compelled to tell Indian what they are doing wrong.

Nothing breeds success like success. Obviously Polaris wouldn't have done this if they didn't think it would be profitable for them. They looked at the market and went with the winner. They can now focus all of their attention on Indian which will be very good for the brand and us as Indian owners.

That must explain the success of all the repair shops that sell no bikes at all.
Going by the bottom line of three friends' dealerships, they make the most money on repairs, service, and item sales. All of them opened their dealerships to repairing other bike makes including the old Gilroy Indians because of the money potential. Also, all of them have picked up other bike lines to sell in order to expand their ability to service other makes. Just pointing this out.
