Anyone else get that blank stare when you tell "mainstream" people it's an Indian?

I mean, plenty of people have asked me what kind of motorcycle I ride. With or without looking at it.
When I say Indian they just stare at me as if I'm supposed to continue.
They say "Indian?" I'm like uhhh yeah.

    They've never heard of it.
I just tell em to google it.

I am convinced that nearly everyone that comes up to tell me what a nice bike think they are looking at a restoration. They never say it, but it sort of like they are seeing a unicorn.

Lots of ignorant folks plus there was that 45 year gap between the Springfield and Gilroy Indians so a bunch of people were born and grew up without ever knowing Indian even existed.

I'm on my 2015 Thunder Black RM sitting at a traffic light when a guy in his mid to late 70's pulls up in the lane along side of me riding a Goldwing. I can see him from the corner of my eye staring in amazement. He yells over to me... "That's a REALLY beautiful bike, what year is she?" I respond by saying "Thank you, he's a 15"
The guy then asks... "All original?"

By this time the light was green. I drove off stunned and confused for a few seconds until it hit me. I then proceeded to laugh the rest of the way home!

Nine out of ten people who comment on the bike knows of the Indian brand, the other guy doesn't have a clue.

Most people I meet know the Indian brand but many are surprised they still make them. My Victory on the other hand is a whole nother story.

Other than myself and my father, I don't know any motorcycle people. I don't go to motorcycle places, or rides, etc very often. Not my cup of tea. I just like to ride.

In Boca Raton a few years ago on my Vic XCT, a guy in a BMW SUV had been following or trying to keep up, when I exited I-95 and stopped at the light he was behind me almost completely hanging out the window - "Wow, that is a beautiful bike! What is it?". After that I bought a Victory script tank badge and put it on the back of the trunk.
I can see the same thing happening with an Indian! (I just will not be putting a Vic tank badge on it :))

I would occasionally get the "they still make Indians" response and very seldom ran into a person who never heard of an Indian.

My response: "yes they still make Indians but you have to be one of the lucky 15,000 riders to buy one because they don't make a few hundred thousand every year". The Indians are attention getters.

Yeah, just like the ones they made in 1915. No changes at all since then.;)
